Description
What is Acid-Resistant Emulsifier?
INCI:Sucrose Stearate/ Propylene Glycol Alginate
CAS:25168-73-4/9005-37-2
Acid-Resistant Emulsifier (product code YLTRISTAB) is a specialized ready-to-use emulsifying system combining Sucrose Stearate with Propylene Glycol Alginate, a seaweed-derived polysaccharide ester. Unlike conventional emulsifiers that break down in acidic conditions, the system remains stable at pH 3–6 thanks to the acid-resistant, calcium-stable alginate, whose esterified groups resist both low pH and electrolyte effects. It builds stable, ionic and inorganic-compatible emulsions with a light, non-greasy texture. Supplied as a white concentrate in 20 kg packaging and used at just 0.5–5%, it allows formulators to create elegant low-pH creams and lotions — such as AHA and BHA treatments — that stay smooth and stable throughout shelf life.
Key Benefits
- Acid-resistant at pH 3–6: remains effective and stable in low-pH systems where ordinary emulsifiers fail.
- Ionic and inorganic compatibility: tolerates electrolytes, mineral actives and inorganic ingredients without losing stability.
- Stable emulsion without greasy texture: a light, elegant skin feel with no heavy or greasy after-feel.
- Seaweed-derived stabilizer: propylene glycol alginate adds natural thickening, stabilizing and film-forming benefits.
- Low dosage: effective at only 0.5–5%, cost-efficient for premium formulations.
- Easy to use: one integrated system simplifies production and improves batch reproducibility.
- Versatile with treatment actives: well suited to formulas containing fruit acids and other acidic active ingredients.
Applications
- Exfoliating and treatment care: AHA, BHA and PHA creams, lotions and gels at pH 3–6.
- Acidic skin care: brightening, clarifying and renewal formulations with low-pH actives.
- Sensitive and barrier care: light, non-greasy emulsions that support rather than overload the skin.
- Electrolyte-rich products: formulas with mineral salts, inorganic pigments or ionic actives.
Process guidance: add at 0.5–5% of the formulation; prepare using a standard hot oil-in-water process and adjust pH after the emulsion forms, following the product TDS. Exact parameters should be validated in your own system.
FAQ
Q1: Why use propylene glycol alginate? A1: It is a seaweed-derived ester that stays stable in acidic conditions (pH 3–5) and resists calcium and other electrolytes, properties most gums and emulsifiers lack.
Q2: Can it be used in AHA products? A2: Yes — it is specifically designed for stable emulsions at pH 3–6, making it ideal for alpha- and beta-hydroxy acid treatments.
Q3: Does it feel greasy? A3: No — the system is formulated to provide a stable emulsion with a light, smooth, non-greasy texture.
